Hi, Splitsider readers. It’s been awhile, but a lot has been going on with Vulture Comedy, so we are saying hi and filling you in. Here are some things we’ve been up to recently that you can watch with your eyeballs.

Good One

Now in its eighth year, Good One has relaunched as a video podcast. It’s the same show all about jokes, but now you can see the biggest names in comedy talking with senior writer Jesse David Fox. Here’s who we’ve featured since returning last month:

Seth Meyers speaks about hosting a late-night show at a time when it seems like the genre is heading towards its end and reflects on his time at Saturday Night Live after participating in SNL50.

➽ More: Seth on what it was like being Conner O'Malley’s boss.

Jason Segel discusses his time as one of the biggest comedy stars in the country when he was making movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the period of artistic soul-searching that followed, and how he’s found fulfillment in AppleTV+’s Shrinking.

➽ More: Jason on embarrassing himself in front of President Obama.

Michelle Buteau talks about her stand-up special A Buteau-ful Mind at Radio City Music Hall, Netflix series Survival of the Thickest, and why representation matters so much to her.

➽ More: Michelle on talking to Melissa Rivers about what it was like growing up as Joan Rivers’s daughter.

Sarah Sherman discusses how she reinvented “Weekend Update,” her experiences at SNL50, and trying to get a poop vampire on live TV.

➽ More: Sarah on everyone’s favorite SNL cast member, Beck Bennett.

Brett Goldstein talks about how Ted Lasso changed everything for him, trying not to ruin Shrinking by appearing in season two, and releasing his first stand-up special ever.

➽ More: Brett on how Shakespeare sucks.

Atsuko Okatsuka speaks about her newest Hulu special, Father, and how her stand-up and social-media videos inform each other to create a new sort of stand-up career.

➽ More: Atsuko on what it’s like to party with Chelsea Handler.

Ed Helms breaks down his process behind his iconic performances on The Office and in The Hangover movies.

➽ More: Ed on the funniest day on the set of The Office.

Introducing: Bucket or Chuck It?

We just launched a series hosted by staff writer Rebecca Alter titled Bucket or Chuck It?, in which she reviews the latest promotional-popcorn buckets offered by the major theater chains based on four criteria: design, functionality, volume, and value. The buckets she has passed judgment on so far:

M3GAN 2.0

M3GAN 2.0 pulled $10.2 million domestic in its opening weekend, a far cry from the surprise success of the first movie in the January doldrums of 2023. But the real tell of a movie’s success or failure is if the tie-in collectible-popcorn bucket is any good. So how does Alamo Drafthouse’s $45 M3GAN 2.0 bucket rate?

Jurassic World

There’s a box-office battle brewing this Fourth of July weekend, and it’s not about which movie will come out on top. It’s about which movie-theater chain has the superior Jurassic World: Rebirth collectible- popcorn bucket. Yes, this week’s popcorn- bucket review is a dino-battle: Regal vs. Cinemark. Which one is worthy of a Jonathan Bailey clarinet solo, and which will be sent to the boneyard?

Also back: “The Maria Bamford Questionnaire”

Longtime Splitsider readers will remember the “Maria Bamford Questionnaire,” where comedy figures answered a list of questions written by the beloved comedian like “What’s your most repetitive, long-term fear?” and “How many colors has your hair been?” That Q+A ran as a newsletter exclusive six years ago, and now we’ve brought it back in the most exciting way imaginable: with more questions written by Bamford and an edition featuring beloved actor and unpaid Merrell shoe spokesman Richard Kind. Read it here to find out the mysteries of his hair.
