5 things we loved in June |
Last month was the official kickoff of summer, and Wirecutter journalists were all over it.
We found (actually cool) prescription sunglasses, discovered the best hidden gems from Trader Joe’s, talked to lifeguards about how they avoid sunburns, and rounded up our favorite weekend-trip bags. And we dove deep into important questions like: How can someone erase themselves from the internet? Why are your appliances dying faster than they used to? And what if you could read … your dog’s mind?
As for us, your newsletter editors? Here are the Wirecutter picks we bought — and loved — last month.

“I got a tube of Beauty of Joseon’s sunscreen — a favorite in our guide to the best K-beauty — and it feels so, so nice on my skin. It’s not gloopy or sticky at all, and instead, feels like applying a very luxe and thin moisturizer each morning. It smells light and pleasant, and leaves me with a very glowy shine that’s pretty much all the makeup I need during the summer.”
“I just finished a week of sweet, sweet PTO that included hiking on a deserted Caribbean island full of birds, climbing over rocks to snorkel, and sipping cocktails at a very chic beach bar. The MVP of each of these disparate activities were my brand-new ugly-cool hiking sandals. They’re extremely comfortable, waterproof, and for whatever reason, quite trendy. I have rarely been as pleased with a pre-vacation purchase as I am with these.”
“This month I made an incredibly luxurious home upgrade: a robot that opens and closes my curtains for me. This automatic curtain opener was easy to install, and it has an app that allows me to set a schedule. I love that I can go to sleep in a perfectly darkened room, and wake up with the morning sunlight without having to lift a finger.”
“I recently restocked on my favorite SPF lip balm. Despite it being technically sunscreen, it feels like a luxe lip product. The thick, metal tube is far chicer than the plastic, skinny tubes that get lost in my bags, the formula feels smooth on my lips, and I feel good heading out on all my summer adventures donning a little extra sun protection.”
“As someone who works from home, my daily attire is something I’ll call ‘lounge chic.’ My latest wardrobe upgrade? The Uniqlo Mini Tee, which comes highly recommended by deputy editorial director Maxine Builder. It’s a slim-fitting, crisp tee made with soft cotton that gives me more of an elevated look without trying too hard. I love it so much, I bought it in dark orange, pink, and gray, and I now happily feel like a more put-together version of myself multiple days a week.”
