Netflix Board to Decide Fate of Lead Independent Director Jay Hoag After Shareholders Vote to Oust Him

Netflix’s board will make a final determination on the fate of lead independent director Jay Hoag in the coming weeks after shareholders voted to oust him during the streamer’s annual meeting on Thursday.

Hoag, a venture capitalist and founding general partner of Technology Crossover Ventures, has served on Netflix’s board since 1999 and is the chair of its nominating and governance committee. Per the vote totals released on Friday, Hoag received 71,428,414 votes in favor of his reelection to the board and 259,865,864 against.

President Trump can bar the Associated Press from the Oval Office and other spaces he wishes to deny access to — at least for the time being — a federal appeals court ruled on Friday, overturning a lower court’s decision.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled 2-1 in the president’s favor in his ongoing legal battle with the AP. The outlet has claimed President Trump’s push to restrict its access violates its First Amendment rights, which the lower court agreed with in April; the appeals court on Friday overturned that decision.

Ad-Supported Streaming Reaches 100 Million Subscriptions, Antenna Finds

The adoption of ad-supported tiers is on the rise, with Antenna finding that ad-supported streaming hit a total of roughly 100 million subscriptions at the end of the first quarter of 2025, up from 53 million two years prior.

Per the new report from the research firm, 65% of ad-supported subscriptions in the U.S. were made up of new users, compared to 23% that were “win backs,” who previously subscribed to a service, canceled, and resubscribed to the ad-supported tier, and 11% that were “traders,” who switched from an ad-free tier.
