Thank You, Langston Hughes Families:
As we close out the 2024–2025 school year, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our amazing parents and guardians for your unwavering support. Your partnership, encouragement, and involvement made a world of difference—and it showed!
Our Inaugural 8th-Grade Moving-On Celebration was a huge success, and we couldn’t have done it without you. From start to finish, this year has been filled with meaningful moments, and your continued support helped make it all possible.
Thank you for being an essential part of our school community! As we wrap up the year, please take note of these final reminders:
- While we know summer is approaching and the weather is warmer, please reiterate to your child the FCPS dress code, particularly, our young ladies and shorts.
- All medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school, June 11th. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
- After-school busses and activities have concluded for the remainder of the school year.
- Laptop Collection – June 5th and 6th. Students attending summer school may keep their laptop. If they already returned their device, we will email with a summer distribution date.
- Our final Panther Party is Tuesday, June 10th – FIELD DAY! If you are interested in serving as a volunteer, please contact AP, Ms. Kerri Kirk at kekirk@fcps.edu. Students participating in field day can leave bookbags at home.
-
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL: Wednesday, June 11th – Early Release Day: Correction: 12:15 a.m. Lunch will be served.
-
ATTENTION ALL RISING 7th GRADERS: If you have a rising 7th grader, mark your calendar! Panther Preview will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, or Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Students only need to attend one session. Click here for more details and to register.
This is our final NYC for the 2024-2025 academic year. Have a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer!

End-of-Year Grading and Reporting
The 4th marking period ends on Wednesday, June 11. Final report cards and 4th quarter Honor Roll certificates will be mailed to your child’s home address in SIS. Please be sure that we have your correct address in SIS so that you receive these documents. If you need to make any changes, contact our registrar, Ms. Hannon.
Social Emotional Learning
During this week’s SEL lesson, students completed a reflection on the 24-25 school year. They identified highlights and lessons-learned from the year. We greatly value student voice and their responses will be used to guide our Flex class planning for the 25-26 school year. Family Conversation Starter: Ask your student what advice they would give an incoming middle school student.
High School Credit Course: Expunging Process
High school credit courses taken in grades 7 and 8 become part of the student’s high school transcript and are included in the calculation of the high school Grade Point Average (GPA). VA State and FCPS regulations permit parents/guardians to make a request to have that course expunged from the student’s record when they are in middle school. Please contact your child's LHMS school counselor and submit the completed Request to Expunge High School Courses Taken in Middle School form and submit it to Ms. Hannon, our registrar. Please have your student see their LHMS counselor if you require a paper copy of this form.
Note for rising 9th graders: Courses taken in the summer following a student promotion from eighth grade are ineligible for removal from the high school transcript. In addition, once deleted, the course cannot be reinstated.
Middle School After-School Program Survey
Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data. The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program but they help drive program improvement and program quality.
Thank you for completing the survey and for your support of the MS after-school program.
Survey responses are due by June 13, 2025.
