Dear Panther Families,

We have completed our final full week of the 2024-2025 school year and what a week it was! On Monday, our second graders released the monarch butterflies they nurtured as caterpillars. On Tuesday, we hosted career day for grades K-6th. Professionals from the fire department, the police department, the army, Gunston Soccer and more came to visit our students and share about their careers. On Wednesday, we promoted our PreK students on to Kindergarten and wished our Preschoolers a happy summer as it was their last day of school. Thursday was field day and despite the heat our Panthers had a great time playing cooperative games and getting just a little wet with some water games. Today we celebrated our school attendance with an AttenDANCE! Each grade level had a chance to come to the gym with DJ LoweDown (also known as Mr. Lowe, our school counselor) to dance and sing with friends and teachers. Please enjoy various pictures of our week sprinkled throughout this newsletter.

Next week is our last week, and it's a short one with the last day of school being on Wednesday. We are looking forward to promoting our Kindergarteners on to 1st grade and our 6th Graders on to Middle School on Tuesday.

End-of-Year Reminders

The last day of school is Wednesday, June 11! Please see some important reminders below:

1. Remind your child to return all school library books and FCPS laptops. 
2. Check your child’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any balances. 
3. Pick up any medications your child has been taking at school. A parent/guardian must pick them up in person.
4. Bookmark the 2025-26 school year calendar to be ready for next year.

Recordatorios de Fin de Año

¡Estamos a una semana del final del año escolar! Abajo le compartimos algunos importantes recordatorios:

1. Recuérdele a su niño que devuelva todos los libros a la biblioteca y las laptops que sean de FCPS (Si le aplica este recordatorio).
2. Revise la cuenta MySchoolBucks account de su niño  y pague cualquier saldo que deba. 
3. Recoja cualquier medicina que su niño haya estado tomando en la escuela. Los padres o representantes deben hacer esto en persona.
4. Marque el calendario del año escolar 2025-2026 para que se prepare para el próximo año.

Limited Early Release Days Continue Next Year

During a report to the School Board this month, FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid announced plans to continue limited early release days in elementary schools and shift them to Wednesdays for the 2025-26 school year. This plan is based on recommendations from the Early Release Steering Committee. The committee includes parents, caregivers, school-based staff, and central office personnel. En un reporte presentado ante la Junta Escolar este mes, la Dra. Learning Doesn’t Take a Vacation — and Neither Does Fun!

FCPS’ Summer Learning webpage offers ideas and strategies for families to keep students curious until August. Summer is the perfect time to help your student explore new interests, reinforce concepts, and stay engaged!

El verano es el momento perfecto para que ayude a su estudiante a explorar nuevos intereses, reforzar conceptos aprendidos y mantenerse interesado en aprender.

Summer Meals for Students: Details Coming Soon

FCPS’ Summer Meal Service Program provides breakfast and lunch free of charge to all children aged 18 and younger. Check FCPS’ Food and Nutrition Services webpage and the USDA Meals Summer Meals for Kids Site Finder in mid-June for specific dates, times, and locations. 

Please note that no meals will be served on the June 19 and July 4 holidays. If you have any questions regarding the Summer 2025 meal service, please email SummerMeals@fcps.edu or call 703-813-4800.

Comidas Escolares en el Verano: Tenga los Detalles Pronto

El Programa de Servicio de Comidas del Verano de FCPS ofrece desayunos y almuerzos gratuitos a todos los niños hasta 18 años. Revise a mediados de este mes de junio las páginas “Food and Nutrition Services” de FCPS y “Meals Summer Meals for Kids Site Finder” de USDA para que encuentre fechas específicas, horas y ubicaciones.

Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders

Additional immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grades:

• All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations before the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. 
• To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age seven or older.
• To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
• As a parent/guardian, you may decide not to have your child receive the HPV vaccination. If that is the case, the school does not require documentation.
• All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) before the beginning of school.
• To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older. 

Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time. 

Local immunization clinics and additional resources are available on the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and from the Fairfax County Health Department. 

Vacunas Exigidas a Estudiantes que Entran a 7mo y 12vo Grados

• Hay vacunas adicionales que son obligatorias para estudiantes que entran a 7mo y 12vo grados:

• Todos los estudiantes que entren al 7mo grado deben recibir obligatoriamente una dosis de cada una de las siguientes vacunas, antes del comienzo de las clases: Tétanos, refuerzo contra la difteria y la tos ferina (Tdap), meningitis (MenACWY), papilomavirus humano (HPV)
• Para cumplir con las condiciones requeridas contra la difteria y la tos ferina (Tdap), la vacuna debe ser administrada después de cumplidos los 7 años de edad.
• Para cumplir las condiciones requeridas contra la meningitis (MenACWY) la vacuna debe ser administrada después de cumplidos los 10 años de edad.
• Como padre o guardián de sus niños, usted puede decidir si sus niños reciben o no la vacuna contra el papilomavirus humano (HPV). La escuela no le exigirá ninguna documentación sobre esto, si un padre o guardián decide no administrar esta vacuna a sus niños.

Le pedimos por favor que considere ponerle las vacunas a su niño anticipadamente, para que puedan asistir a clases en otoño. El verano siempre es una temporada muy ocupada tanto para las familias, como para los profesionales de salud. Siempre y cuando su niño cumpla con los requisitos de edad que hemos listado anteriormente, pueden recibir sus vacunas en cualquier momento.

Language Arts Summer Learning: Magazines, Weekly Plans, Activities, and More

We will be sending students home with two Benchmark magazines to help them practice their reading and writing skills during the summer. You will also receive a letter from our school with weekly learning plans and activities. 

Find more ways to support your child's literacy skills on FCPS’ Summer Learning Resources webpage. All of these activities are optional, but we encourage families to help their students practice reading and writing during summer break, so that they can start strong next school year.

Instrucción de Lenguaje y las Artes en el Verano: Revistas, Planes Semanales y Más
