A Note from the Principal's Desk

Dear Willow Springs families,

As you can see from the photos above, we have had a week full of excitement as we bring this year to an end. This year brought a lot of changes and challenges like a new language arts curriculum and 3-hour early dismissal days. Through it all, we kept our communication and collaboration strong, and we have much to be thankful for and to celebrate.

We are so proud of our former foxes who are now high school graduates! It is always such a joy to see them again. We wish them all much joy and success in life.

We wish all of our families a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Dylan Taylor, Principal

Ipsa Stringer, Assistant Principal

Laura Tapper, Assistant Principal

Language Arts Summer Learning:

Magazines, Weekly Plans, Activities, and More

We will be sending students home with two Benchmark magazines to help them practice their reading and writing skills during the summer. You will also receive a letter from our school with weekly learning plans and activities.

Find more ways to support your child's literacy skills on FCPS’ Summer Learning Resources webpage. All of these activities are optional, but we encourage families to help their students practice reading and writing during summer break, so that they can start strong next school year.

 Science Olympiad Update

Virginia Division A Science Olympiad (3rd 5th grade) has just announced a significant change for the 2025/2026 school year. Instead of competitions occurring in the fall, next year’s Division A competition will be in the spring (either April 18 or April 25). Additionally, each competition day will have two “sub competitions”, so our school will either compete in the morning or in the afternoon.
Because of the later competition date, there will be more time in the fall to organize teams and hold practice sessions. We are still collecting “pre registration” information now, but there will be another window in the fall to sign up as well.
If you have already filled out the parent interest form, your information is captured and you do not need to fill it out again. I will contact you in the fall to begin the partner selection and event finalization process, after the final event descriptions are released. If you have not yet filled out the parent interest form, please use this new link, which contains the updated competition date information: https://forms.gle/hPNcumGkmt3BVHXD7
