Good afternoon. It’s Friday, April 18.

In today's newsletter:

  • The search for two men who were lost after their side-by-side plunged into the Susitna River last month is set to resume as the ice starts to go out during spring breakup.

  • The Anchorage Assembly approved two measures this week that clear a path for funding and finishing a longstanding overhaul of the Don Young Port of Alaska, the state’s main port facility.

  • The likelihood that Mount Spurr, the volcano 78 miles southwest of Anchorage, will imminently erupt has decreased since March, though scientists say it’s still possible.

From the Anchorage Symphony to a hip-hop orchestra experience, there's no shortage of things to do for music lovers this weekend in Anchorage. You can also explore a snowboarder event at Arctic Valley or the Alaska Native Book Fair. Check out our full weekend events listing here.

Anchorage weather

It's mostly cloudy today with a high near 45 degrees, and the forecast calls for scattered rain showers through this evening. We should see mostly sunny skies over the weekend, while rain is forecast to return Sunday night and into Monday. Daytime temperatures will hover in the mid- to high 40s for the next few days.
