cell phone ban

Let's Focus on Learning: Cell Phones Away for the Day!

To ensure a productive and distraction-free learning environment as we finish the 4th quarter strong at GMS, we want to remind everyone about the FCPS regulation regarding cell phone use. All cell phones, including AirPods and smartwatches, must be turned off and stored away for the entire school day. If a student uses their cell phone during class, staff will ask them to place it in a locked cart with a school security/administrator until the end of the school day, when it can be retrieved after the last bell. For repeated offenses, administrators will collaborate with parents to create a plan involving phone storage in the locked cart for a set period. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your child's administrator.

School Start Times Survey

Last year, FCPS held community forums and surveyed middle school families regarding middle school start times. Now, we would like to hear from all staff and families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. The goal remains to begin middle school at 8 a.m. or later at the start of the 2026-27 school year.  On April 1, a survey link was sent by email to staff, parents/caregivers, and students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open for two weeks and will be available in multiple languages.

Summer Institute at Glasgow

Glasgow Middle School will host a 4-day Summer Institute from June 23rd - June 26th for rising 6th grade and current 6th- 8th grade students who are full time eligible students and/or Young Scholar eligible. This camp will feature engaging STEM hands-on learning activities and Project Based Learning.

On June 27th we will have a special culminating event where families are invited to join their students at The Summer Inspire Conference. This culminating day will feature an opportunity for students and families to interact with visitors in the STEM career field and for students to show off their final projects in a student showcase. A free grab-n-go lunch will be provided. The summer institute is not mandatory, but is an optional event that is offered by Glasgow to support fun, engaged learning over the summer.

Identified families will receive an invitation to register for the Summer Institute.

2025 Virginia Science Olympiad State Tournament at the University of Virginia

Congratulations to our Science Olympiad participants for their work at States this past weekend!  The students put forth their best efforts, worked through challenges and pushed forth. Glasgow came out 17th place overall, and many students are inspired to make it back again next year and place higher. GMS had four students place in the top six for Entomology and Meteorology, and they received medals!  Congrats to our ENTIRE Science Olympiad Team and to our representatives who went to States!
