The US Department of Health and Human Services is gearing up to cut 10,000 jobs, with dismissals beginning Tuesday. Even more cuts are coming across the federal workforce, on top of the tens of thousands of employees who have already been laid off or placed on leave, or who have left on their own. For local governments, the Trump administration’s firing spree presents an opportunity to close long-standing staffing gaps in their own offices.
