Dear Mother Jones Reader,

On Friday, a catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar. It is the strongest and most devastating earthquake that has been recorded in the country for years. More than 2,700 lives have been lost, and over 4,500 are injured. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and critical infrastructure has been destroyed. Medical teams are doing everything they can, but they are working under extreme conditions.

My colleague in Mandalay shared the heartbreaking reality with me: “The situation is chaotic. The city has been cut off from the rest of the country with widespread power cuts, and the main access routes are severely damaged. A disaster of this scale is extremely traumatic. Most of the victims have lost everything they had.”

Despite the challenges – no electricity or phones, highways completely destroyed, and cuts to USAID, which would typically support an emergency response like this – our teams are already on the ground.

Here at Humanity & Inclusion, we’ve been responding to disasters like this one for over 40 years. We know they often strike without warning and almost always disproportionately affect people with disabilities. Our emergency teams are prepared to provide the most important and immediate needs, including: shelter for those who have lost their homes, rehabilitation care for those with injuries and amputations, and psychological first aid for those enduring the severe trauma of a life-altering disaster.

With your help, we can ramp up our inclusive emergency response. Can we count on your support today?

With $25, you can provide five people with a first aid or hygiene kit of essential care items.

With $100, you can help us provide post-operative rehabilitation care to prevent permanent disabilities.

With $200, you can help buy an adapted wheelchair for someone with an injury or disability.

We can't do this work without people like you. Your gift today can change lives and bring hope to people who have lost everything. Every dollar you give strengthens our ability to provide immediate and long-term assistance to those who need it most. On behalf of our teams on the ground and the people we serve, thank you.

With gratitude,
